Join the SCVO Board of Trustees

SCVO is looking for a new trustee, elected from our membership, to join our Board. We invite nominations from our membership community so we can then hold a members’ vote to fill those vacancies at our annual general meeting (AGM) in December.

Our trustees play a key role in making sure that SCVO stays true to its mission and values, serving the interests of our members and the wider voluntary sector. Our trustees also make sure that SCVO’s governance is maintained to a high standard.

The SCVO Board is made up of up to 11 trustees. Six trustees are elected from our membership and five trustees, including our convener, are co-opted. Being a trustee is both rewarding and challenging, as we operate in an ever-changing environment with precarious funding – just like most other voluntary organisations. As a member of the SCVO Board you will:

  • be responsible for the strategic direction of SCVO.
  • uphold SCVO’s values.
  • promote the role of the voluntary sector wherever appropriate.
  • receive reports from the Chief Executive and other staff on SCVO’s operations and finances, making recommendations as required.
  • make sure that all statutory requirements for SCVO are met.
  • agree on co-options to the Board of Trustees.

We want a diverse Board of Trustees with a depth and breadth of insight, experience and perspective. We welcome and value people of different backgrounds, thinking and skills and we encourage SCVO members from all backgrounds to apply for these vacancies.

Our digital evolution team helps thousands of organisations large and small to grow their digital capability. A core part of our vision for the voluntary sector is to ensure that organisations are supported to use digital technology and systems securely.

As part of that work, we’re looking for a Cyber Resilience Co-ordinator to work with key voluntary sector stakeholders and the Scottish Government to co-ordinate the delivery of the actions set out in the Cyber Resilience Third Sector Action Plan.

The Cyber Resilience Co-ordinator will have experience of working in a similar role and proven knowledge of the cyber threat landscape and how organisations can develop their cyber resilience. This is not a technical role – the primary purpose is supporting effective partnerships to shape and deliver the action plan. Successful applicants should have the ability to persuade and influence and have experience of project management in a similar role.

This role can be based in one of our three offices, with hybrid/home working options available. Occasional travel to Edinburgh/Glasgow will be required.

We’re looking for an experienced Facilities Manager to work with our Property Manager and provide a modern facilities service to our internal and external customers across all our sites.

You will recruit and retain tenants to SCVO’s shared office spaces and act as first point of contact for tenants, visitors and staff based in the Inverness office, and deliver excellent in-person customer service.

You will have experience in dealing with a range of people confidently and ideally have previous experience engaging, vetting and appointing appropriate contractors to carry out works to ensure our offices remain compliant and effective environments.

Digital Inclusion Development Officer

This role is based in our Digital and Development Department, working across our programme of digital inclusion initiatives and supporting organisations funded to undertake digital inclusion projects.

We’re looking for someone who has a good working knowledge of poverty and inequality, and how this impacts on digital inclusion.

Our team has a wide-ranging portfolio of upcoming work. This will be of interest to candidates who would like an opportunity to make an impact on how we reach those most affected by digital exclusion and poverty, helping them access essential digital services. Our current work plan includes the re-design of Connecting Scotland and thematic projects focused on harm reduction, Technology-Enabled Care (TEC) and digital ethics, as well as ongoing work on Essential Digital Skills and supporting community-based digital inclusion partnerships.

Journalist / Communications Officer

Are you a member of SCVO who would like to support the diverse, thriving voluntary sector to grow, evolve and succeed? At SCVO, our mission is to support, promote and develop a confident, sustainable voluntary sector. We’re looking for two new Board Trustees, elected from our membership, to help us achieve our aims. If you work for one of our member organisations, you’re eligible to apply for one of the vacancies and we want to hear from you.

The SCVO Board of Trustees has responsibility for our strategic governance and direction. The Board oversees our activities and sets a vision for the organisation. The Board also makes sure we fulfil our charitable purpose and deliver our strategic plan, through good governance.

The SCVO Board is made up of up to 11 trustees. Six trustees are elected from our membership. Five trustees are co-opted, including our convener. As a member of the SCVO Board you’ll:

  • be responsible for the strategic direction of SCVO
  • uphold SCVO’s values
  • promote the role of the voluntary sector wherever appropriate
  • receive reports from the Chief Executive and other staff on SCVO’s operations and finances, making recommendations as required
  • ensure that all statutory requirements for SCVO are met
  • agree on co-options to the Board of Trustees.
