The Best Way Community Development (BWCD) is a registered charity established in 2012 with the objective of addressing the various issues faced by the African community in North Lanarkshire, including poverty, isolations and discrimination. BWCD's mission is to create a platform for integration that breaks down the barriers between the African community and the wider community. To achieve this mission, BWCD runs several activities, including financial support and signposting. The organization operates a food bank that is open every day at Jerviston community centre to provide support for those affected by financial hardship. BWCD also offers parcel delivery of food for individuals who are unable to collect due to financial, disability, or medical reasons. In addition, BWCD provides hot meals every Sunday to support homeless people and create a space for people to come together and address the issue. Moreover, BWCD collaborates with the Fuel Bank Foundation to support low-income individuals who are unable to top up their electricity and gas. The organization provides £30 per household and partners with Advice Direct Scotland to help those with difficulties in paying their monthly electricity bill or dealing with debt. In family support, BWCD works in partnership with several organizations, including North Lanarkshire Council, Families Affected by Alcohol & Drugs, and African Lanarkshire for Mental Health, African Collaboration Working Group, Scottish Drugs Forum, Scottish Refugee Council, and Waverley Care. Together, they provide support to African families with various issues. Finally, BWCD is working in partnership with Good Things Foundation to promote digital inclusion. The organization provides free SIM cards with unlimited calls and data for up to six months and runs digital training for kids to learn how to code. They also offer digital training for the community to search for jobs and write CVs. BWCD believes that digital inclusion is crucial in today's society, and their partnership with Good Things Foundation aims to bridge the digital divide and ensure that everyone has access to digital resources.
