We have spoken to the Scottish Government with regards to the ongoing situation concerning the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and sought guidance with regards to the Community Jobs Scotland employer funding.
We received the following advice:
- Where an employer takes the decision that staff have to work from home then funding for the post will continue. We would expect the employer to follow their home working policy and continue to pay their CJS employee as normal.
- Where an employee has to self isolate because they are symptomatic then funding for the post will continue. We would expect the employer to use their own sickness absence policy regarding pay and at the very least pay Statutory Sick Pay.
- Where the government announces that workers have to stay at home and either due to the nature of the work or lack of ability to work from home then funding for the post will continue. We would expect the employer to keep paying the CJS employee as normal. No employer can use “Short time working or Lay off” policies in relation to CJS employees as they are Scottish Government funded posts
The Scottish Government will of course be monitoring and reviewing the situation and will update us with any changes in policy which we will keep you advised of.
The CJS payment process will continue as normal with your Payment Manager confirming your CJS employee status on at least a monthly basis. If for any reason your Payment Manager needs to change, even on a temporary basis, please contact your Account Manager as soon as possible.
