Aims & objectives

Dumfries & Galloway Citizens Advice Service is an amalgamation of Dumfriesshire CAB, Castle Douglas and District CAB, Stranraer CAB, Dumfries Welfare Rights, Stranraer Welfare Rights, Nithsdale Housing Advice Service, Upper Nithsdale Welfare Rights and Dumfries & Galloway CAB Benefits Advice Project. Its objectives are to ensure that individuals do not suffer through ignorance of their rights and responsibilities, or of the services available, or through an inablity to express their needs effectively, and to exercise a responsible influence on the development of social policies. D&G Citizens Advice Service is a purely administrative body, and has its Headquarters located in the same building as Dumfries Citizens Advice Bureau. Other member bureaux are in Annan, Castle Douglas and Stranraer.

Job description

The Administrative Assistant will work as part of a team to provide general and clerical support for staff and volunteers within DAGCAS. Duties will include word processing, filing, taking, recording and directing telephone calls and general office duties. The postholder will also be required to develop knowledge and operate in house recording systems (full training will be given) and assist in the production and collation of monthly statistical reports.

• Ability to communicate effectively with people verbally (by telephone and face to face) and in written communications

• Ability to empathise and assist clients appropriately

• Good level of numeracy and literacy

• Demonstrate a competent knowledge of Microsoft Applications and an ability to learn and use a range of software packages
