Reviews galore at the Gathering

“I adopted a magical dog. It's a shame he doesn't realise he's the size of a horse!” When a review starts like that, you know it’s going to be a great one! And if you see the dog Jenni is talking about in her review of the Dogs Trust then you’ll understand what she means! In February, Good HQ was at the Gathering alongside many other fantastic third sector organisations. Across the two ways we were encouraging people to tell us why they love charity. Over 30 people shared their story on Good HQ so we thought we’d do a roundup of some of our favourite.

On volunteering

Many people showed just how important volunteering is to them by leaving a review of the organisations they support. Challenges Worldwide collected eleven great reviews about their volunteering programmes, including this one:
“I volunteered for Challenges World just last year, and without a doubt I can say that I have had the most remarkable experience ever. Not only did I have so much fun but the experience has allowed me to work on both my personal development and professional development.” – Vaneza reviewing Challenges Worldwide, read the full review.
Crisis Scotland also received this great review about volunteering over the festive season:
“As a volunteer for Crisis at Christmas during 2015 and 2016 I got to see first-hand and be a part of some of the fantastic work Crisis does. Christmas can be one of the toughest times of the year for people without a home but Crisis do a great job in making it a little easier.” – Charlie reviewing Crisis Scotland, read the full review.

On supporting

It wasn’t just volunteers who were sharing their experiences, supporters of good causes were also sharing how they’d been impacted by the work of charities across Scotland. For example, Alice had high praise for the work of the Cyrenians and their Conflict Resolution programme:
“Gordon was a very inspiring speaker and the staff as a whole really benefitted from his input. Staff members left the sessions feeling highly motivated and having reflected upon his guidance and advice, harboured a more positive outlook on their practise.” – Alice reviewing Cyrenians, read the full review.
And then there’s this heart-warming review about the work of Guide Dogs Scotland:
“Exceptional charity and we have nothing but praise for them especially with the recent loss of my husbands retired guidedog Casey. Constant contact, support, guidance and sensitivity towards our loss. Over the years of our connection with this charity we have had many dealings with them and each time they have always went the extra mile.” – Carol reviewing Guide Dogs Scotland, read the full review.
