Celebrating the amazing contribution of Scotland’s volunteers

Let's all celebrate and have a good time - the words of Kool & the Gang are particularly relevant this Volunteers’ Week! A week that’s all about celebrating the dedication, time and effort of the thousands of volunteers who give up their time to support good causes across Scotland. Volunteers that are essential to the vitality and strength of our communities and who contribute an estimated £2.6 billion to society every year. Now we think THAT is worth celebrating! We know all about the hard work and dedication of volunteers here at SCVO. People have been sharing their experiences of volunteering on Good HQ for over a year now, so we know that there is much to celebrate this #VolunteersWeekScot. Like Karen - a volunteer at North West Recovery Communities, the the organisation that helped her get her life back:
“I was given the opportunity to join NWR volunteers which has been amazing and rewarding. I am privileged and more importantly great full to be a part of the organisation tthat (sic) helped me get my life back.” – Read the full review on Good HQ.
Or Cara - her experience volunteering at Euan’s Guide helped her get her current job:
“Great charity to volunteer for; the experience I gained helped me to get my current job!” – Read the full review on Good HQ.
Naomi is a volunteer for Stirling Soup. Her involvement has inspired her to get more involved in her local community:
“Such an inspiring movement to be a part of. Its (sic) been a pleasure to pitch at, and to volunteer for, Stirling Soup, and the founder has motivated me to get more involved in local community work.” – Read the full review on Good HQ.
There are too many fantastic stories to celebrate in one blog! Keep an eye on @GoodHQ and #VolunteersWeekScot on Twitter as we share more stories throughout Volunteers’ Week (1st – 7th June) and to find out what other organisations are up to across Scotland. We want to hear your story too this Volunteers’ Week - and if you share between 1 and 7 June 2017 you'll be entered into a prize draw to win an Amazon Echo Dot or Fire 7 tablet! Just go to Good HQ, search for the organisation you volunteer for and share your experience. Remember to include #VolunteersWeekScot and we’ll share your stories across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram too.
