This research note outlines some of the main issues surrounding the voluntary sector in Scotland in 2001. It provides an overview of the infrastructure of the sector at the time and looks at the specific issues of funding, charity law reform, criminal record checks, and volunteering. The note also reports on a number of initiatives of the (then) Scottish Executive such as the establishment of the Voluntary Issues Unit in September 1999, as well as joint initiatives such as The Scottish Compact which was endorsed by the Scottish Parliament around the same time. The note updated the previous Research Note 00/83 Issues for the Voluntary Sector in Scotland produced in October 2000.
