Blood Bikes Scotland
Blood Bikes Scotland EVS (BBS) was formed in 2012 and commenced service with NHS Borders in September 2015 and NHS Lothian in December 2016.
Our service is simple. Where the NHS would make use of an expensive taxi or courier, using fully liveried motorbikes, we offer this service free of charge as a way of ‘giving something back’.
BBS support teams in both primary and secondary care including GPs, District Nurses, Care Homes and Community Hospitals as well as secondary care hospitals.
In the last 12 months our team of volunteers has grown from 20 to 80 plus. Our fleet of liveried bikes has grown to eight operational machines and one that we use for fundraising and publicity activities. Every penny we raise through these activities goes into the running of the charity.
The charity funds the bikes, running costs and fuel. Our volunteers provide their time and energy to run the service.
In June 2018 we won the SCVO Charity of the Year and People’s Choice Charity awards at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) ceremony.
