Grassmarket Community Project
Grassmarket Community Project – Tartans, Woodwork, Events & Catering
GCP supports vulnerable adults (homeless, rough sleepers, people with drug, alcohol, mental or physical health issues or neurological disorders or disabilities) by providing a range of engagement activities and social enterprise opportunities from volunteering to training to work.
We provide over 25 activities a week from computer to cooking skills, practical training, gardening to a choir, art classes, creative writing, yoga, counselling, walking and aerobics. All free and all part of a diverse and supportive community.
We have paid apprenticeships in catering and furniture making as well as volunteering and paid jobs in social enterprises, including a Tartan textiles gift and woodwork social enterprise, a café, an award winning events space for conferences, meetings and weddings and run two staff canteens (one on a construction site and the other in a busy city-centre office).
We believe everyone should be encouraged to contribute and 60% of our staff team have support needs. We provided over 8,500 free meals last year and supported over 500 people in our community. To many we provide the only meal they have each day and to many we are their family.
