Screen Memories is a registered charity which uses memory cards, resources, trailers, archive documentary footage and film extracts to help older people, especially those living with dementia, to reconnect with film and TV. The project works in partnership with Regional Screen Scotland’s Screen Machine as well as community cinemas and is volunteer led. Screen Memories sessions are held all over Scotland in day care, care homes, hospitals and resource centres. Activities include reminiscing, acting iconic scenes and singing. Ideas for introducing elements of dance are being progressed. Training is provided for volunteers, hospital and care home staff, carers, friends and family members and senior students. Themed showings in the Screen Machine have proved very successful, notably for Shinty and Athletics.
