Eden Project Communities
Eden Project Communities exists to connect people to each other and to the places they live. Both through campaigns such as The Big Lunch, where we invite people to sit down to share food with neighbours during the first weekend of June, and ongoing network activity, bringing people together to share ideas and learning in local exchange hubs. We aim to inspire and support people to take positive action in their communities, and our ambition is to see Big Lunches; in streets, gardens, town centres and public buildings, and exchange hubs taking hold in every neighbourhood of Scotland.
Our research shows that community events like The Big Lunch are seen as powerful ways to strengthen local bonds; 72% think it is more important than ever to organise events that bring people together, and 70%/47 million people think shared moments with people in your neighbourhood are important for their own personal sense of wellbeing and belonging. 80% of people who take part in Big Lunches report feeling less lonely as a result, with almost the same number saying that after taking part, they would go on to be involved in community activity, so we know it works!
