Grassmarket Community Project
Grassmarket Community Project is a grassroots charity supporting vulnerable and socially isolated adults. This includes homeless people, people rough sleeping, people with a history of substance misuse, people involved in the criminal justice system, people with mental health issues or a physical disability. As well as provided a dynamic range of 25 weekly educational, training, group-work, therapeutic and creative activities we run 6 social enterprises – 4 catering including a busy city Centre café and 2 staff canteens, an award winning events space, a recycled wood furniture workshop and a textiles small gift and clothing enterprise. We support over 500 people every year and provide a sustainable community of on-going life enriching experiences and opportunities to our members. We provide a free lunch 7 days a week to our members (beneficiaries) as well as meal for the homeless every week with free haircuts, a benefit support service and pet clinic on hand. GCP was awarded UK Community Cinema of the Year in 2019, Scottish Non-Profit Café of the Year in 2019 as well as Social Enterprise of the Year in 2017.
