Aims & objectives

Create Paisley's vision is to see ‘young people transformed through creativity, community, confidence and finding their voice’. The organisation wanted to create a safe space for young people to meet, and offers regular arts workshops including film-making and audio-visual techniques, youth mentoring, a youth forum, cafe nights and a fortnightly open-mic drop in. The organisation's objects are as follows: A) The advancement of citizenship or community development by: - helping the people of Paisley and surrounding areas to develop their skills and abilities, flourish and recognise their full potential; - fostering safe environments where we strive for positive relationships, which include the involvement of young people and the wider community; - encouraging personal, social and spiritual development in those connected with the group; - working alongside agencies, organisations and individuals who have similar objectives. B) The advancement of the arts, heritage or culture by: - cultivating a creative community and providing opportunities for artists and musicians; - facilitating events and activities which are inspired and informed by the interests and passions of the local young people and wider community.

Job description

1. To organise, plan and deliver youth arts activities

Organise and plan youth arts activities including the Create Cafe youth drop in, Couch & Canvas arts drop in, arts workshops

Assist the Organisational Development Worker by carrying out general administration and office duties.

Assist the Youth Work Development Worker and deliver events including supporting volunteers and young people.

Identify and develop new opportunities for arts workshops based on young people’s ideas and input

2. To engage with existing and new young people, promoting young people's voices and ideas

To encourage young people to share their ideas, express themselves and engage with the wider community

Use arts as a tool to engage with new and existing groups of young people

To engage young people in conversations around CREATE and local issues

3. To organise regular social media posts and maintain online content

Organise regular posts showcasing Create’s work on its social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram

Work with Create’s Project Manager and volunteers to develop regular newsletter using Mailchimp

4. To assist with film projects and events

Assist and develop film ideas commissioned by external agencies: scripting, filming and editing

Assist or deliver sound, projection and light hires for events

To set up equipment at regular Create events and operate as required

5. To maintain daily records of engagement with young people for the purposes of evaluation, case studies and reporting

Record records of attendance for activities

Gather news stories, case studies and positive feedback for use in regular newsletters, funding evaluations etc.

Write a work weekly journal with reflections on engagement with young people, tasks, training / training needs and ideas

6. To attend training / skills development opportunities in youth work and other relevant areas

To attend youth work training

To identify training needs relevant to job and to arrange with line manager to attend relevant training where possible

Other Duties

Attend line management supervision, staff meetings and team events as required

Occasionally carry out additional duties in conjunction with Create Paisley charitable objectives

Essential

An ability to motivate young people and volunteers to build up their confidence

An ability to work flexibly

Ability to plan, manage and prioritise own workload

A good level of written and IT skills

EXPERIENCE

Using creative and visual arts as an educational tool

Event management and delivering projects to a deadline

Working in creative media: filmmaking, graphic design, sound equipment, etc.
