Aims & objectives

Sikh Sanjog was set up in 1989, under the name ‘Leith Sikh Community Group'. Its aim was to provide support for women in the Sikh community who had been settling in Edinburgh since the 1950’s. Sikh Sanjog aims to provide a range of quality opportunities for Sikh and other Minority Ethnic women and their families which reflect their educational, recreational, cultural and social needs recognizing the potential for lifelong learning and social inclusion. Key activities: Personal development and employability facilitation Inclusive and recreational activities for children and young people Literacy coaching Training and coaching in IT and computer use for everyday life Social and wellbeing support for young women from settled migrant communities, and others new to the community and those with young families Health and wellbeing activities for over 50’s women Advice and counseling through a “drop in” centre

Job description

General office duties including typing, photocopying and filling of correspondence

Communicating by telephone with group members, volunteer’s external agencies and general enquiries.

Recording and forwarding messages

Receiving callers to the office and assisting with hospitality

Keeping the office diary

Assisting with publicity, open days, AGM, Festivals and any other events

Maintaining supplies of stationery and office equipment

Purchase of office supplies

Dealing with Petty Cash transactions

Person specification

Candidate must have good IT skills in Using the Internet, MS Word and a knowledge of Excel. Personable and good verbal and written communication skills
