How can Scotland's civil society contribute to the debates about the global economy?
Internship report looking at two questions: 1) Can civil society organizations in Scotland agree on a shared vision on what kind of economy we want, and launch some initiative together? 2) In the current context in Scotland, is there an opportunity for civil society to participate in the debates with this agenda, and be heard? The information was collected mainly through interviews of key figures from civil society organizations, people from public and private sector, an academic and a politician. Discussion group was used as a complimentary data collection method. KEY FINDINGS there is an agreement among civil society organisations in Scotland that we need a different economic system, because the one we have now is flawed economic strategy should not just focus on economic growth as a sole measure of progress economic growth should not be an end in itself the market does not know best, and that the cliche that money does not buy happiness is in fact true and last but not least, that civil society wants to contribute more to the debates about the economy, and civil society wants to be heard Also see Anna's blog: http://www.scvo.org.uk/scvo-news/research-the-global-economy-and-scotlands-civil-society/
