Innovation during the Covid-19 pandemic: Volunteers and voluntary sports organisations in England

This research, conducted by Bayfirth for Sport England, was designed to identify the challenges and opportunities for volunteers, community and national sports organisations during the pandemic and to analyse innovative responses. While the focus is on England there are many findings of interest in the full reports, as well as eight case studies looking at specific examples of innovation.
In the thematic analysis of the innovations adopted by volunteers and NSOs and CSOs surveyed the report identified 6 themes: • Going digital • Innovations in CSOs • Volunteer recruitment and retention • Volunteer training • Changed relationship between NSOs and CSOs • Reaching out to meet wider community needs
