Alcohol & ageing; recognising a hidden problem in plain sight
Hosted by Drink Wise Age Well
Date: Thursday 21 February
Time: 1.30pm – 2.30pm
Room: Alsh Suite 2
In the UK, harmful drinking is decreasing in every other age group, except in older adults. However, despite the biological and physiological changes we go through as we age, alcohol related harm within this population remains a largely hidden problem.
In fact, our Drink Wise Age Well over 50’s study found that 4 in 5 respondents who were drinking at risky levels had never been asked about their drinking by anyone.
This event seeks to introduce individuals to the concept of alcohol and ageing, dispel myths surrounding the issue and consider how we can recognise harm earlier.
Additionally, we will discuss why alcohol is an issue within the ageing population, ways in which to recognise this and how we as individuals and organisations can respond appropriately.
