Good Morning Service
Good Morning Service – Connected, Safer, Valued 365 days a year.
Good Morning Service provides telephone befriending and alert calls to older people.
Every morning, 365 days a year, Telephone Befrienders call out to members at a pre-arranged time to check that all is well and for a good blether. Whether it’s someone to share a laugh with, simply be there to listen and give emotional support in difficult times the Service builds relationships that are meaningful: personal, trusting and long-term.
If a Good Morning Call goes unanswered and the person can’t be located the service will alert nominated contact persons or the emergency services to a potential health problem. Help will be sent, 365 days a year.
Originally a service delivered by Glasgow’s Social Work Department on a small scale, Good Morning Service took over in 2000, launching its unique 365-day Good Morning Calls, adding Good Night Calls in 2008.
“At the time I didn’t want to live any more. I felt ‘If this is Life I don’t want it,and my GP put me onto Good Morning…I’ve found talking is the best therapy.”
Good Morning Calls are free to those aged 55+ living in Glasgow City Council and South Ayrshire Council areas.
